Protect your information, respect other people’s privacy and pause before sharing photos, recordings or personal details.
01
What Is Private Information?
Private information can identify you, locate you or give someone access to your accounts. Protect:
Your full name, home address, live location and school.
Phone numbers, email addresses and identification details.
Passwords, verification codes and recovery information.
Private photos, health information and financial details.
02
Ask Before You Share
Do not post another person’s photo or recording without clear permission.
Permission for one post does not mean permanent permission.
A person can change their mind and ask you to remove the content.
Never pressure someone to share a private or sensitive image.
03
Respect Unlocked Devices
An unlocked device is not an invitation. Do not open another person’s messages, photos, files or accounts. Lock the device or return it to its owner without exploring its contents.
04
Your Digital Footprint
Posts, comments, photos and forwarded messages can be copied or saved. Deleting a post may not remove every copy. Think about how a post could affect you or another person now and in the future.
Four-question check
Before Sharing a Photo
Pause for a moment. If any answer is unclear, do not share yet.
Act early
If Something Was Shared by Mistake
Remove the post or message if you can.
Ask recipients not to save, forward or repost it.
Use the platform’s reporting tools when needed.
Review the account’s privacy and audience settings.
Tell a trusted adult if a child or another person may be harmed.
If the situation involves threats, impersonation, blackmail or account misuse, follow DeraSafe’s incident-response guidance.
