What Is a Child Helpline?

A child helpline is a service that provides help, support and counselling to children aged 18 and under and, in some cases, young people up to age 25, through online or offline communication channels.

Child helplines help children be heard and may serve as a first point of contact with child protection or other support services.

Why Child Helplines Matter

  • Children may need a safe place to talk.
  • Some children may not know which adult or authority to contact.
  • Helplines can provide listening, guidance and referral.
  • Some services connect children to child protection or emergency support.
  • Availability and scope vary by country.

Immediate Danger?

If a child is in immediate danger or needs urgent medical or emergency assistance, contact the appropriate local emergency service in that country.

DeraSafe does not receive child protection reports, emergency requests or individual case details.
